Projects and workshops:

Artist working with Longridge Youth And Community Centre to create an orienteering trail through a park in Longridge using the trees within the park as reference on clay tiles and also bronze post tops.

Artist in residence in Tor View School, Haslingdon through Creative Partnerships creating a visual and tactile map of the school in clay and tactile trails around the school using ‘objects of reference’ from their timetable.

Artist working with the Fierce Festival in Birmingham on the Feed Me Allotment in Birmingham. Working with Colmore Infant School to produce ceramic bowls based on vegetables grown on the allotment that will be used for the final feast.

Various clay workshops with children through the school from thumb pot fish with Y1 to Aztec sunstones with Y5 during Arts Week at Lord Street Primary School, Colne.

Introductory clay workshops with Y3 at Great Harwood Primary School making mini beasts and working with Gifted and Talented at the school on their own Pop Art wall pieces.

Working with Darwen Moorland on a landscape project for ‘Imagine’ the Arteach touring exhibition. Linking my work with the work produced from the landscape surrounding the school. Looking at layers with in their surroundings and creating textured vessels and also three porcelain light pieces.

February Half term workshops at Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery working with the collections as inspiration. Workshops were aimed at 5-8yrs and 8-11yrs working with clay to produce their own coins, Egyptian artefacts, etc.

Artist working with Barden Junior School to produce clay ‘Coats of Arms’ for each class of the juniors. Each class designed their own emblem using heraldry as a starting point referencing the work they do in class including projects within different subjects; these designs will be displayed above each classroom door.

Previous work experience includes:
  • Adult Education tutor at Nelson and Colne College working within the art department providing Open College courses and also ‘Explore your Potential’ workshops for the Learning Support department.

  • Bury Arts and Craft Adult Education Tutor providing pottery courses for adult and also Technician support for the department.

  • Artist working with CABE on ‘My Perfect Town’ project, across East Lancashire. Working in schools with Key Stage 2 pupils who are affected by Elevate, the Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder to ask the question of what would make their perfect town. Results will be used to produce a Calendar to be distributed to schools and key stakeholders across the Pathfinder area.

  • Workshop leader at Witton Country Park, Blackburn to produce a collaborative piece with participants to mark the start of the Witton Country Park Sculpture Trail.

  • Edenfield Mosaic project. Working with the community to design and produce a mosaic hop scotch to be placed in the Memorial Gardens in Edenfield.

  • Pendle way markers project. Working with Whitefield Primary School to produce brick way markers and notice boards along the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

  • Workshop leader on the UR Space project spanning Pendle and Hyndburn to produce a fantasy village with children aged 5 – 12 to be exhibited in Waterside, Colne.

  • Gifted and Talented clay workshops, Our Lady of St John Arts College, Blackburn.

  • Celebratory Vessels Workshop leader Platform Gallery, Clitheroe. Two-day clay workshop with Yr.1 making creatures from 'Under the Sea' to decorate the classroom toilet walls St Johns Primary , Nelson.

Skills:

I have taught a wide variety of people from Year 1's to A level and been involved in a number of community projects instigated by myself and with other artists or art related organisations. I also have experience working with disability arts groups using a variety of media from experimental drawing techniques to basic clay workshops. Clay workshops have included pressed and incised techniques into slabs to create a large scale wall piece or basic thumb pot techniques to create individual elements made by all participants.

My ceramic skills include hand building; coiling and slab work; Brick carving; plasterwork; glaze technology; slip-dipped fabric and other objects, mosaic work and brick carving. I have experience of various firing techniques including smoke firing; reduction firing and raku. I also have experience building experimental kilns, using paper and sawdust to fire and constructing my own raku kilns.

From my degree in Design Crafts my technical skills other than ceramics covers a broad range of media. I have experience in using willow for sculptural work and basket making. My textile skills involve screen-printing fabric and clay, felt making, weaving, machine and hand embroidery and batik work.
