Nature and landscape are the inspiration behind Julies gallery work using details in nature or drawings of natural forms from mountains to flowers to create her 2D and 3D works
Functional and sculptural vessels are created by hand rolling out slabs of porcelain and wrapping around various forms using nature as inspiration and decoration. Metal fence staples are used to close cracks or fissures in the works created by natural textures on the clay. Barbed wire appears to wrap the forms protecting them before firing. Copper is also a theme through the work used to stain textures and decoration and also in the form of wires creating lines reflecting her drawings of the landscape on the surface of the forms. Slip dipped natural forms are also used such as sunflowers and gerberas dipped into porcelain slip and then fired to create a ceramic fossil each one as different as the next reflecting the delicateness and fragility of nature.
