light and landscape

The pieces displayed here are works exploiting the translucent properties of porcelain. Julie has consistently used light within her work using it to reveal the delicate nature of leaves or feathers dipped in porcelain and fired burning away the natural materials leaving almost a ceramic fossil of the natural form. Here she has used sheets of leaves, fabrics and copper wire to depicted landscapes and textures found within it. She has also used text to describe feelings whilst out walking and also lines from poems that she has found reflecting her feelings about nature. Look closely and you may find other details that can be found within the landscape.

'Memory Jars' is a new direction for Julie's work taking her way from her memories of landscape and turning to that of childhood. We all have certain things that trigger a reaction within us that take you back to a moment, a feeling, a time. Julie has used a kilner jar she was given reminding her of her Nan bottling jams and fruits from the garden as a child. The sister piece to this is a series of button jars yet to be realised.
